Land Development Issue on Silver Lakes

Save Our Lakes Alliance Silver Lake Update

Since our last communication to you on March 12, 2024, SOLA3 has been busy working with the community, officials and the media, which has produced good results. •We have close to 300 signatures on our petition to our elected officials. •There have been over 160,000 views of the “Silver Lake Is In Trouble” video. Thank you Jeffrey Smith!! •The Amy Corp of Engineers met with the property owners, requesting some remediation and regrading. •On March 22, 2024, Sussex County Planning and Zoning Director issued a letter of violation. This is the first time Sussex County has recognized this as a violation. It is a very strong letter to the owners. The following is an excerpt, but please read the letter by clicking Here! "As Sussex County has not been contacted since the issuance of the Notice of Violation on February 6, 2024, and no permit applied for, or hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analyses submitted, it is my position that all of the fill recently transported onto the parcel without the necessary approvals must be removed, and the parcel then re-graded and restored back to its original condition.” •The Cape Gazette has featured another article on this recent issue. Click Here to read the article SOLA3 will continue to press our County and State officials for better enforcement of their current regulations and the need for adequate protections for waterways when adjoining land is being disturbed and/or developed. We still need your help! If you have not watched the “Silver Lake Is In trouble” video or signed the petition, please click https://www.sola3.org/silver-lake-is-in-trouble-updated/and do so. We need to continue to let our officials know our concerns. We rely on your Involvement and Support SOLA3 is grateful to those in our community who have joined us in contacting their elected officials.
